Alive in the age of outrage and outrageous behavior
Continuing my trip back in time through the album charts
12/06/20 : Wake Up, Sunshine - All Time Low
I thought I'd reviewed All Time Low - but that turns out not to be the case, so I think I must have been thinking of Low instead. But that still meant I assumed this was slightly miserablist indie, whilst at the same time knowing there was probably very little chance that it was.
And it's not - I'd describe it as boyband indie, but I suspect everyone will be unhappy with that description. It's kinda jaunty toe-tappy stuff which isn't essential, but is perfectly fine if you're in the mood for it - and I listened to it in the garden in the sunshine, so I was in a fine mood for it. It feels unlikely I'll be revisiting it though, I'm afraid.
Somewhat surprisingly, we're at #3 with a re-entry this week - they had one week in the chart back in April and they had another week this time around (probably due to a delayed physical release). I was also somewhat surprised to see that they had a #1 album back in 2015 and they've been around since 2011! The only new entry in the top ten this week was Sports Team (#2), which I almost forgot I'd previously met and Lady Gaga was at #1 with another one we've already seen.
Wikipedia doesn't have a lot on the album other than the critics liked it - apparently it's "dreamy". I was surprised to learn they're American though because for some reason I just assumed they were from here - and it actually did better over here than anywhere else, only getting to #31 in the US.
"Customers also listened to" Good Charlotte (who are a good match) and a load of other people I've never heard of. But I didn't mind this at all - if you like jaunty "power pop" or "pop punk" or whatever else those genre specialists like to call it, then you might well like this.
05/06/20 - Not one for me, I'm afraid
19/06/20 - An album nobody was asking for
