Our third sports review... Philadephia Eagles vs Jacksonville Jaguars : Tottenham Hotspur Stadium I love my London NFL games and this year I'm lucky enough to be going to two of them - next weekend I'm off with the kids to Wembley, but last weekend it was just me heading off to Tottenham. Imho the Tottenham games are better because the stadium is just a bit more compact - but the kids can't go because they're all Arsenal fans (obviously the fact that the tickets are more expensive doesn't enter into my thoughts at all). All the London games have a nominal home team (the Jags in this instance), but generally the crowd rock up wearing the jersey of whichever team they actually follow which leads to a many-flavoured crowd, very few of whom actually care who wins the game. But this weekend was very, very different! Just walking to the stadium, it was clear that at least half of the attendees were wearing Eagles jerseys, which was unexpected because I wasn't aware th...

Our second sports review... NY Jets vs Minnesota Vikings : Tottenham Hotspur Stadium I've been to quite a few (ten?) of the London NFL games over the years and I always enjoy them with their good-natured atmosphere and knowledgeable crowds. I've always sat up in the gods due to the price of the tickets (and it's not like they're cheap these days either) but was intrigued as to how different things were closer to the pitch - so this year I decided to spoil myself and, with the exception of Glastonbury (which gives me a good four days enjoyment), spent more than I've spent going to an event to get a seat in row fourteen with an excellent view along the fifteen yard line. Despite the best efforts of the Jacksonville Jaguars to adopt London as their second home, the London games are generally attended by fans of the game rather than fans of either of the teams on the pitch so applause tends to be unbiased and any attempts to get the crowd to "MAKE SOME NOISE!"...

Let's go Lions, let's go!

Something different - our first sports review... London Lions vs Umana Reyer Venice : Copper Box Arena Several years ago now, Isobel (our youngest) was given the opportunity to try out for the local sixth form college U12 basketball team (Oaklands Wolves) - it's fair to say she took quite the shine to it and is now coming to the end of her final season with the U14 team, which has involved some quite lengthy trips for away games at the weekend!.  As well as going to watch her play, I also get the job of ferrying her to watch their senior women's team who, quite obviously for a local sixth form college, play in the premier league so they get to take teams on from slightly more recognisable areas like Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Cardiff.   The amount of money the teams have varies wildly (Wolves do surprisingly well against some teams) but one team somewhat overshadows them all - the London Lions haven't been beaten domestically for several years, so it's more a...
