Continuing my trip back through the 1959 album charts.
13/12/59 : Family Favourites - Russ Conway
Our third visit with Mr Conway and it's fair to say I've not been impressed so far - and I'm going to be amazed if this changes my opinion in the slightest.
Nope - it's the same old out-of-tune nonsense. I was also amazed at how little of them I recognised - I appreciate that musical tastes have changed, but the only ones I knew were "Teddy Bears Picnic" (which surprises me by actually showing some level of skill) and "We'll Meet Again". But whether I knew them or not, I definitely didn't need 17 tracks of this - I just don't understand what anyone ever saw in it.
We're at #4 in the charts this week on his 14th week of a 16 week run, with it peaking at #3 in its third and fifth weeks and the rest of the top five were South Pacific, Cliff, Gigi and My Fair Lady. We actually have a new entry this week with another Russ Conway album (#9) which is fortunately one we'll miss out on this year (although I'm sure we'll get to see it in '60) but there are still no named women yet.
Wikipedia doesn't have anything on the album - what could they possibly find to say about it? Checking the charts, we've got one more album of his to check out this year - but at least we're not doing the singles chart because he had six hits this year, including two number ones!
"Customers also listened to" "no similar recommendations" - which doesn't overly surprise me because the only thing I've ever heard on my travels that's similar is Mrs Mills (which is also dreadful). I've absolutely no time for this and so I obviously really can't wait to see him again later in the year...
06/12/59 - Unsurprisingly dated
20/12/59 - I can only assume the film is better
