You lost your mind, I could not go

Continuing my trip back through the 2017 album charts.

22/09/17 : Concrete And Gold - Foo Fighters

Our seventh visit with the Foos and, although my last visit was probably my favourite, my expectations are pretty low here - but you never know!

Actually, I didn't mind this at all - the tracks are all well crafted (which is generally the case, even for tracks I don't like) and there's enough variety across the album to keep me engaged enough, although I wouldn't claim too much of it stuck in there on first listen. I'll be interested to see whether the proper Foo fans liked it because it wasn't as rocky as I was expecting, but I thought it was all decent enough (if unlikely to get a revisit).

We're at #1 with a new entry this week - either our fifth in a row or our eleventh in a row if you include George Michael as a "new" entry. It hung around for a somewhat surprising 19 weeks (which suggests word of mouth reviews were positive) and the rest of the top five were Gary Numan (a new entry), Ed Sheeran, The Script and Rag'n'Bone Man with the next highest new entry being Prophets of Rage (#6), who I don't remember in the slightest but I think we can safely assume I'm not going to like them.

Wikipedia tells us this is their ninth album and reflects Dave's thoughts on the US in the time of Trump, with him describing the overall theme as "hope and desperation" - he was also struggling with the after-effects of the broken leg he sustained falling off stage in '15, which was taking longer to heal than expected. This is the fourth album we've seen this year which features Greg Kurstin on production duties - it also features Justin Timberlake and Paul McCartney (who, quite obviously, plays drums on one of the tracks). Critically, it was pretty well received and commercially, it obviously did well, getting to #1 in a load of places, including all the major English-speaking countries.

discogs.com tells us you can pick up a decent version for £2.50, but if you want the three-sided double album then it's going to set you back £30, which seems pretty reasonable, all things considered. I didn't mind this at all and felt it added an extra dimension to their output for me - no, I won't listen to it again but you can't have everything!

29/09/17 - I didn't mind this, but...
