What are you waiting for, a kiss or an apology? You'd think by now you'd have an A in toxicology.
Continuing my trip back through the 2017 album charts.
29/09/17 : Wonderful Wonderful - The Killers
Our fifth visit with The Killers (and we've got another couple to come because all their albums have hit #1 over here) and I'm sure this will be, as they all are, perfectly fine - but no Hot Fuss.
Yeah, I didn't mind this at all. U2 are the obviously touchpoint, but I also got strong hints of Chris de Burgh and, in places, Bee Gees - so make of that what you will. It all takes itself far too seriously but somehow gets away with it - however, there's no danger of me swapping a minute of it for anything on the first half of Hot Fuss. Sorry dudes!
We're at #1 with a new entry at the start of an impressive 20 week run with the rest of the top five being Foo Fighters, Ed Sheeran, Van Morrison (another new entry) and Enter Shikari (another new entry for the St Albans massive). And we have two more new entries in the top ten for Black Country Communion (#7) and The Horrors (#8) - it's been a busy time for new releases recently.
Wikipedia has a reasonable amount (220 milliPeppers) and it tells us this is their fifth album and it's all about "being a man" (whatever that means). Apart from that, there's remarkably little on there - it's produced by Jacknife Lee (who's done a fair amount of work with U2) and Mark Knopfler and Woody Harrelson are also involved on some tracks (an obvious creative combination). Critically, it was pretty well reviewed with AllMusic saying "the record charms because its ridiculousness is sincere and his sincerity is ridiculous" - which I guess is what I said above? Maybe? Commercially, their #1 here made them the first international act ever to have their first five albums go to the top, but interestingly it was also their first #1 in the US (weirdly, Hot Fuss only got to #7).
discogs.com tells us you'll need to spend a whole two pounds to get a decent copy of this, but if you want to splash out then you can spend £95 on a copy signed by, not only Brandon, but also the (probably) famous Ronnie - I'm in, I tell ya! I feel a bit mean on them poor Killers trying they're hardest and all I do is go "well, it's not as good as your first album"- but sadly I'm right. And they know it...
06/10/17 - All just a bit boring
