I keep waiting to see who's gonna say the things I need to know

Continuing my trip back through the 2003 album charts.

31/08/03 : Take Them On, On Your Own - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

I don't believe I've ever listened to a BRMC album - I feel I don't like them, without being sure whether that's actually the case. So maybe it's time I found out one way or the other...

Well, there's nothing wrong with this if you're in the mood for some 70s inspired classic rock - which, fortunately for them, I pretty much was when I listened to it. Along with The Darkness and Iron Maiden, the '03 charts are going through a bit of a rawk phase at the minute - and I'd also say that they've all been better than most of the other stuff I've had to endure. I wouldn't say I loved this but it's a decent example of that sort of thing and I really didn't mind it at all - I also got the feeling Kasabian might well have listened to this whilst they were recording their debut album (which came out in '04).

We're at a surprisingly high #3 this week in the charts with a new entry on the start of an less surprisingly short four week run. The rest of the top five were The Darkness, Eva Cassidy (her third posthumous album - apparently she's up to nine now!), Busted and Sean Paul and the next highest new entry was Mary J Blige (#8).

Wikipedia tells us this is their second album and the album cover is an homage to The Third Man - and I actually recognise it as such. It is also apparently "universally credited as a lesser achievement than its predecessor B.R.M.C." - oh well, I guess I'd better check that out then. Commercially, it did averagely well globally, getting to the top thirty across Europe and #47 in the US.

"Customers also listened to" Wolfmother, Band Of Skulls, The Dead Weather and The Black Angels - they all sound like rawk groups, don't they? As are BMRC,  but I"m pleased to report I enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting. - quite why I thought i didn't like them, we'll never know!

24/08/03 - Not as fun as I expected
07/09/03 - Perplexingly popular
