They try to tell us we're too young

Continuing my trip back in time through the album charts

04/02/73 : Too Young - Donny Osmond

MORE Donny?  Do I HAVE to?  Yup - rules are rules...

Yes - it's dreadful.  If I'd just met the one of his albums this year it probably would have got a pass, but this is the fourth time I've met him (three solo and one Osmonds album) and I've just had enough of him - sorry, Auntie Rosemary.  It's interesting how many of the tracks are 50s/60s songs which are exactly the sort of things that Perry Como would also have covered - and on this album he even has the strings backing that Perry went for.  I guess that kinda music had both ends of the music buying public tied up - at least there's been plenty of other stuff throughout the year (lots of which has been perfectly dreadful, but at least it's been differently dreadful).

We're at #8 in the charts on its ninth week of a 27 week run, with it having peaked at #7 in five separate weeks.  The top five this week are Elton (a new entry about to embark on a five week run at the top), the LSO, SladeSimon & Garfunkel and Bowie and there are no other only new entries in the chart, but eight re-entries.  And yes, Carly is the highest woman (and it's nice to be able to give her the link this week!) - her only female companion this week is Carole down at #41.

Wikipedia seems to have had enough of the lad as well with there being just three sentences on the album - basically, it exists.  And it did better over here than in the US, but still got to #11 with sales of half a million over there.  "Customers also listened to" - all the other strands of Osmania and David Cassidy, anyone?  Oh yes - and The Brotherhood Of Man and David Soul as well.  Jolly good!  Straight into the bin with the lot of it - with this album taking pride of place.

28/01/73 - Some interesting sounds
11/02/73 - I bet you think this post is about you
