It's been a hell of a ride but it's all caught up with me
Continuing my trip back through the 2017 album charts.
25/08/17 : The Peace And The Panic - Neck Deep
Our first visit and only our fourth ever mention for Neck Deep - apparently they're a Welsh pop-punk outfit, which doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, but let's see what we've got.
Nah - this is OK. They're aiming for a British Blink-182 sound and they pretty much hit the spot. It's not aimed at me, but if you were looking for something to throw yourself around to in order to demonstrate some harmless teenage rebellion then there are far worse things you could subject yourself to - I imagine they were fun live too.
We're at a surprisingly high #4 in the charts this week on the start of an unsurprisingly short three week run - but it's still their longest charting run of four albums from '15 to '24. The rest of the top five this week were Ed Sheeran, an Elvis Presley best-of, Steven Wilson (a new entry) and Everything Everything (a new entry) and we have two more new entries in the top ten for The Sherlocks (#6) and Chase & Status (#7).
Wikipedia has considerably more than I was expecting (192 milliPeppers) and it tells us this is their third album - and, amazingly enough, that's about it. All the rest just tells us that they'd recorded the previous album, toured, wrote some more songs, recorded them and released them - just like everyone else does for every other album. Critically, it appears it was anticipated more than it was actually enjoyed when it arrived, but it doesn't seem like anyone was that rude about it and commercially it didn't really do much in Europe, got to #6 in Australia - oh, and #4 in the US. WHAT?!? To be fair, it is a pretty American kinda sound - but even so. It's also kinda weird that Wikipedia doesn't even draw attention to how well it did over there.
discogs.com tells us you're going to have to spend four quid to get a decent copy of this but if you want the US vinyl test pressing it's going to cost you £300 - sweet! There's no danger of me ever revisiting this but it was harmless fun and I imagine provides very pleasant memories for plenty from around that time.
01/09/17 - Surprisingly interesting
