I keep coming back to that moment where it all fell apart

Continuing my trip back through the 2017 album charts.

21/07/17 : Night And Day - The Vamps

I'd say The Vamps aren't really my kinda thang, but then someone would point out that I have seen them live twice, so I can't exactly hate them (and they've have a point).

Hmmm - a lot of this is a bit wet, but when they speed things up I don't mind them. They're not doing any harm though and they're not in the slightest bit interested in my opinion. I also recognised "Shades On". "Cruel" and "Rain" because they're live staples of theirs (in the two times I've seen them anyway). I also have to say I'm not convinced by some of those haircuts on the album cover.

We're at #1 (their first chart topper) in the charts this week with a new entry on the start of a very brief six week run - I may not have loved it, but it felt like it deserved better than that. The rest of the top five were Ed Sheeran, Rag'n'Bone Man, Bugzy Malone (a new entry) and a John Denver best-of (a re-entry, for no obvious reason) with two more new entries in the top ten for Oh Wonder (#8) and Joe McElderry (#10).

Wikipedia tells us it's their third album and it was actually released in two versions - the Night edition, which is the one I listened to, and the Day edition, which was released a year later with another eight tracks on it. And what a whole load of unnecessary faff that is - so I'm going to punish them by not listening to those eight tracks. Apart from that, the only item of interest is that Sabrina Carpenter appears on "Hands" - it's fair to say she wasn't quite as well known back then. There's absolutely no hint as to what the critics thought of the album and commercially, it troubled the lower reaches of the chart in quite a few countries but #6 in Ireland was the only noteworthy placement away from here.

discogs.com tells us you're going to have to shell out three quid to get a decent copy of either version - and there a load of limited editions of both, but nothing is going to set you back more than twenty pounds. And I can assure you I won't be spending anything on it - The Vamps are a fine "best-of" band for me and surprisingly decent live, but no more than that.

28/07/17 - An admirable album
