Turn up the headphones a bit - yeah, yeah, yeah

Continuing my trip back through the 2017 album charts.

13/10/17 : Wamp 2 Dem - Giggs

Now, I don't want to go in to these things with a closed mind - but sometimes I'm left with no choice because if ever there was an album title that screamed "you're not gonna like this" then this is it. Obviously, I could be wrong - but I ain't gonna be, am I?

Well, I guess it could have been worse because I didn't absolutely hate it - but I certainly didn't actively like it either. The rapping (and yes, it's rapping, in case you hadn't guessed) isn't dreadful but the backing tracks are very, very simple so I struggle to imagine that there's been too much effort gone into it. Especially because all the effort has gone into making it offensive - the opening track features 18 N words alone, so I just ended up rolling my eyes. Yes, I know it's not aimed at me - but it's REALLY not aimed at me.

We're at (quite obviously) #2 in the charts with a new entry this week on the start of a (surprisingly generous) six week run. The rest of the top five were Liam Gallagher(another new entry), Ed Sheeran, The Killers and Foo Fighters - and boy do we have an interesting mix of new entries in the top ten this week. Yes, FIVE more of them with A-ha (#6), Marilyn Manson (#7), The Darkness (#8), JP Cooper (#9) and Jason Manford (#10) - no-one saw that lot coming, did they?

Wikipedia tells us it's not an album at all - it's a mixtape, dude! I was somewhat surprised to see that Giggs is British because it has a very US kinda sound to it. The rest of it is mostly filled up with people I've never heard of, but I was surprised to see Dave involved because he wasn't even close to being famous at this point (and I've even heard of Young Thug as well). Reading his entry was quite entertaining though because you get the feeling the Met didn't really like him - he was arrested in '12 because they searched a car he was in and found an illegal firearm. Which isn't something I'm condoning kids, but the driver admitted it was his and yet Giggs still spent six months inside as a result until a jury went "seriously dudes - what are you on?". Back to the album, there's absolutely no word on critical reception and it didn't do anything commercially anywhere else, so all in all, I've got nothing for you.

discogs.com has all of five copies of this available, ranging from the depths of two quid to the heady heights of £8.10 - oh yes, everyone's desperate to get their hands on this these days. I imagine that some people look back on these days (a distant nine years ago now) with some kind of fondness, but I struggle to imagine too many of them believe this was its musical high point. And yes, I could be wrong - but somehow I really don't think I am.

06/10/17 - All just a bit boring
20/10/17 - Super noodly
