Questa mia canzone inno dell'amore
Continuing my trip back through the 2001 album charts.
28/10/01 : Cieli De Toscana - Andrea Bocelli
This is something I'd never normally listen to, but I understand why people love it and he's got a decent voice so I very much doubt I'm going to hate it. Also, somewhat surprisingly, this is the sixth of his albums that's been mentioned here so far, with quite a few top five new entries being unlucky to miss out to higher new entries and one being in line for a review but then I couldn't find it anywhere - so I definitely feel he deserves a write-up.
Whether he gets the write-up he deserves is another matter, because all I've really got here is "nice". He's got a nice voice and they're nice songs, sung in Italian which is a nice language, so I really don't see how anyone could seriously object to it (except for Bono's contribution - that was bloody awful). I don't remember any of it and I'm never going to listen to it again, so I'd struggle to say I loved it - but I'm perfectly happy for others to do so, because that's the kinda guy I am.
We're at #3 in the charts this week on his second week with this being as high as it got - it had a thirteen week run which, as a variation on a theme, featured no climbs. The rest of the top five were the Steps best-of, Kylie, Linkin Park and David Gray and the highest new entry was Pulp (#6 with We Love Life, which I don't think I've ever heard).
Wikipedia tells us this is his eighth album - and that's pretty much your lot, except that if just the music isn't enough for you then he released a DVD with some pretty videos as well. And that's pretty much your lot but his entry is somewhat lengthier and basically tells us he's a BIG DEAL - I never knew that Romanza sold over twenty million copies. There's no word on critical response for this album though, but it did well across Europe, getting to #1 in The Netherlands and Sweden and it also got to #11 in the US.
discogs.com tells us that you're going to need to spend a couple of quid to get a decent version of this, but you can't spend any more than £10.99 on it. Which seems reasonable value if this is what you want - I don't, but I know plenty of people that do.
04/11/01 - Better than expected
