Let me lay it on the line - I got a little freakiness inside

Continuing my trip back through the 2003 album charts.

19/01/03 : Angels With Dirty Faces - Sugababes

Our second visit with Sugababes this year - like last time, I'm expecting this to be decent enough with some high quality singles present.

Well, it starts with "Freak Like Me", soon followed by "Round Round" so that's the high quality singles ticked off. And the rest of it is indeed decent enough - like a lot of albums in this vein I've seen this year, it's not something I feel the need for in my life but there's nothing wrong with it. None of it approaches "Freak Like Me" for quality though, which got added to my general playlist - I'd forgotten quite how good it was.

We're at #10 in the charts this week on their 21st week of a decent 42 week run, with #2 being as high as it got in its debut week. The top five this week were Avril Lavigne, Justin TimberlakeP!nkDaniel Bedingfield and Busted and the highest new entry was Good Charlotte (#69) which actually spent 39 weeks of the year in the chart, but never made it any higher than #15.

Wikipedia tells us it's their second album and their first with their second line-up (of many), with Heidi having replaced Siobhan (as I'm sure you remember). It's fair to say that quite a few writers were involved on this album - 39 are listed across 13 songs, including the Xenomania team who went on to bigger things with Girls Aloud later this year. Critically, it was received well enough but commercially it did pretty well across Europe, making the top twenty in quite a few countries and getting to #3 in Ireland.

"Customers also listened to" Girls Aloud, Atomic Kitten, Liberty X and The Saturdays - yeah, we're not venturing a million miles away there. As I said, this isn't something I need but I didn't mind it all and really quite liked it in places - I'd take it over Beyonce or Kelly Rowland any day.

12/01/03 - Surprisingly tolerable
26/01/03 - Not bad at all
