No attorneys to plead my case - no opiates to send me into outer space

Continuing my trip back through the 2003 album charts.

16/11/03 : Try This - P!nk

Our third visit with P!nk - I've not minded either of her previous offerings and I'm expecting a similar response here.

Yup - I don't mind this either, without exactly needing it in my life. It's not exactly challenging but it just gently rocks past you nicely - I'm not sure I needed 50 minutes of it, but she just about got away with it. I'd quite like to hear Kylie trying something like this, but I suspect her voice just isn't strong enough (although it's more than possible there's a rock Kylie out there I have yet to experience) - and that's all I've got to say on the matter really. It's all fine, but no more than that - although in her defence it's really not aimed at me.

We're at #3 with a new entry in the charts this week on the start of an impressive 28 week run with this being as high as it got. The rest of the top five were Dido, the R.E.M. best-of, Blue and Atomic Kitten (another new entry) and the next highest new entry was a Lionel Richie/Commodores best-of (#10).

Wikipedia tells us this is her third album and she didn't have a great time making it, under pressure from her label to get another album out to build on the success of Missundaztood, her previous album - which we'll get to hear at some point, along with plenty other of her offerings because she's had four #1 albums and eight in the top five. Despite her not being a huge fan of the album, the critics were pretty nice about it declaring her much better than all those trying to imitate her and commercially it did well enough, getting to the top ten in most countries, including #1 in Switzerland and #9 in the US, shipping nearly three million units globally.

"Customers also listened to" Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Avril Lavigne and No Doubt - some shrinking wallflowers there and no mistake. As is our P!nk - she's not at her most confrontational here but it's some nicely tuneful teenage rebellion which hits the spot for those that need it.

09/11/03 - A pretty dreadful album
23/11/03 - Incredibly forgettable
